How to apply for an e-residency card

Updated for AccRes. This AccRes guide to “How to get an e-Residency card?” has been refreshed for the new knowledge base: the practical workflow is kept intact, with added context for AccRes clients and a reminder to check the service interface against the screenshots before following the steps.

To get an e-Residency card, you need:

1. Prepare the following documents:

  • a copy of a passport from the government authority of the client's country (the document should be in English)
  • passport photo
  • Visa or Mastercard credit/debit card

2. Go to the police department's special website: https://eresident.politsei.ee/ and do the following

  • register an account
  • fill in the application form (about half an hour)
  • pay the state fee of 150 euros. From 1 January 2027, the planned flat state fee is 165 euros
  • choose where you want to receive the card (list of pickup locations: https://e-resident.gov.ee/pick-up-locations/)

3. Wait for the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board to process the application. This usually takes up to 30 days.

4. After approval, the card is printed and sent to your chosen pickup location. This usually takes another 2-5 weeks. You must collect the card in person and give fingerprints at the pickup location.
